Dr. Vicente B. Paqueo

Dr. Vicente B. Paqueo is a distinguished visiting research fellow at the Philippine Institute for Development Studies, a fellow at the Social Weather Stations and the Foundation for Economic Freedom, and a World Bank consultant.

He was a lead economist at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., and a professor at the University of the Philippines (UP) School of Economics. He was the lead consultant of the Asian Development Bank Social Protection Support Project for the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program. He was also a consultant at various times for other organizations like the International Labour Organization, World Health Organization, United Nations Children’s Fund, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Commission on Population and Development, and Population Center of the Philippines.

He obtained his bachelor’s degree and doctorate in economics at the UP School of Economics. He was appointed as visiting postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University in New Jersey with a grant from the Population Council. He has published numerous articles and books and presented papers at local and international conferences. Early in his professional career, he received the Outstanding Young Scientist Award for Human Resources Economics from the Philippine National Academy of Science and Technology.  

His research interests include education, social protection, and human development.
