Jurel Yap is a Doctor of Philosophy candidate at Griffith University’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Prior to his doctoral studies, he was a program manager and statistician at the Ateneo School of Government, where he did research on political economy, dynasties, and public opinion in the Philippines. His research interests lie at the intersection between quantitative methods and social science research, applied to geographical data.

He obtained his double bachelor’s degree in Development Studies and Mathematics at the Ateneo de Manila University and his master’s degree in Statistics at the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
