This paper seeks to investigate, using the life stories of 10 women and their families, the internal dynamics of rural Filipino families. Specifically, it aims at clarifying the decision-making processes and the outcome of these processes as seen by a grup of women. It focuses on work and education, where the latter is often viewed as a goal for which energies and resources are mobilised. The paper begins with the discourse on the concept of work.
