This paper notes the changes in the situation of women in Asia under three main areas of concern: poverty and the economic empowerment of women, violence against women, and the girl-child. This is explored around the consensus reached in the UN fourth wold conference on women in Beijing. This paper articulates the substantial improvement in the lives of women in Asia due to rapid growth but argues that globalization has yielded negative effects on women.
