Sustainable urban development connotes a primary concern for the environment, taking into account the carrying capacity of a given urban space. She pointed out the indispensability of social equity to the definition of sustainability. The paper pointed ot problem areas which normally do not get recognized when sustainability is simply cast in terms of environmental and economic criteria.
