This maiden issue presents two papers which deal with one of the most urgent and contentious issues of our time: the conflict between customary indigenous law and the national law on the ownership and use of land. The first paper deplores the failure ofhe national legal system to recognize the traditional tenure of indigenoous cultural communities to their ancestral lands. The second focuses on the Mangyans which talks about their displacement in the land they occupied since time immemorial.
