This introduction examines the Thomasites in classroom and community. It was there that Americans and Filipinos came face-to-face and began the process of learning from and about one another. There they met, not as colonizer and colonized, but as teacherand community member. The Filipinos came in many guises -- student, neighbor, local official, priest, nun, farmer, fisherman, market vendor and many more.
