INTEGRATIVE OR DIVISIVE? CHRISTIAN SYMBOLS AND RITUALS IN PHILIPPINE SOCIETY


The Catholic Church in the Philippines has been actively involved in the concerns of Philippine society. This involvement intensified during the years of authoritarian rule, and today in the institutionalization of constitutional democracy. This involveent raises questions about the rationale and limits of Church participation in the secular, and more so in the political order. This product of a symposium presents some explanations.
