Bamboo is a widely-used substitute for rainforest hardwoods. It is a natural and excellent raw material for manufacturing furniture, handicrafts, and novelty items. However, the product potentials and improvements in productivity of bamboo are not fully explored in the country. In response to this problem, “Bamboo Demonstration and Pilot Application of Technology Packages and Production Systems”, a R&D project supported by PCARRD, was implemented in Iloilo and La Union from 1993 to 1995. Thus, this study, conducted by the Visayas State University in 2010, assessed the impacts of the R&D project in Iloilo on the farm-level efficiency gain and rate of adoption of the package of technology as well as well as the estimated returns to PCARRD’s investment.
