After almost 11 years of fighting for extended maternity leave benefits for women by various stakeholders, the Expanded Maternity Leave Law (EMLL), or Republic Act No. 11210, was enacted on March 11, 2019. It was widely celebrated as a significant measure to improve the conditions of working mothers. However, this law faced various challenges. This monograph discusses the EMLL and its various issues and challenges it faces. It also gives recommendations for the law to be utilized to its full potential.
