21st Development Policy Research Month
Socioeconomic Issue on Spotlight

September is celebrated yearly as Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) by virtue of Malacañang Proclamation 247 issued in 2002. The DPRM highlights the critical role of policy research in nation-building. It underscores the need to promote and draw awareness and appreciation of the importance and necessity of policy research in crafting evidenced-based plans, programs, and policies. The DPRM also aims to cultivate a strong culture of research among decisionmakers and the general public and raise public awareness of socioeconomic issues. The proclamation also designated the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), the Philippine government’s main socioeconomic think tank, as coordinator and convenor of the yearly celebration.

For 2023, the 21st DPRM celebration centers on the theme, “Going Green and Digital for a More Sustainable, Inclusive, and Prosperous Future for All” (in Filipino: “Maging Makakalikasan at Digital para sa Higit na Matatag, Ingklusibo, at Masaganang Kinabukasan para sa Lahat”), to highlight the importance of simultaneously pursuing digital transformation and green transition to have a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future. Going green and digital is the way to build back better and stronger after the COVID-19 pandemic and achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The evidence-based discussions during the DPRM organized by PIDS and its partners will tackle how the Philippines can pursue this twin transition strategically and in a just and equitable way for everyone, leaving no one behind.

For more information, visit the DPRM website and follow PIDS on its social media pages (Facebook and Twitter). You may also join the various DPRM events.
