Sustainable Growth Requires More Scientists, Engineers—UNESCO


The last issue of the Development Research News (DRN) this 2023 features articles from the 9th Annual Public Policy Conference (APPC), which focused on the theme "Going Green and Digital for a More Sustainable, Inclusive, and Prosperous Future for All". Its banner article highlights the crucial role of a workforce with science and engineering skills in addressing the twin challenges of climate change and digitalization. Another article features National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan’s keynote at the APPC, which centers on the administration’s commitment to attaining sustainable and inclusive development. The subsequent articles tackle the need to provide workers with targeted training and skills development programs, support enterprises in adopting digital and green transformation, embrace principled artificial intelligence in pursuing genuine productivity, and address the data gap in the country’s green transition. Also included is an article from the 9th Mindanao Policy Research Form discussing approaches for local governments in implementing policies that counter environmental impacts and promote ethical use of technology.
