Impact of the Emergence of High-Speed Crafts on Inter-Island Trip-Making Behavior

The Philippines with its archipelagic nature being composed of more than 7,000 islands, is dependent on the efficiency of its water transport for its trade and commerce. In the shipping industry, the development of High-Speed Passenger Crafts (HSCs) as an alternative means of inter-island transport has greatly affected the island communities with its level of service. The study is focused on those who utilize HSCs as their inter-island transport mode and their reasons, and characteristics of the mode, which they have considered prior to choosing it and how it has affected their trip frequencies, trip purposes and the perceived impacts of the operations on the areas it has served.
