Issues in Philippine Food and Nutrition Policy

As espoused by current nutrition programs of the National Nutrition Council, the overriding thrust is to provide short-term or immediate intervention measures to treat identified malnutrition cases and to sustain the initial progress brought about by these measures. Other than the economic side of the nutrition problem, there is a need to generate political will and advocacy of the objectives of the nutrition programs to push effective implementation in the community or barangay levels. This DRN issue delves into the pressing issues of Philippine food and nutrition policies. Nutrition trends and several general policies affecting nutrition are analyzed.
