PIDS 2017 Annual Report: Strengthening Decentralization for Regional Development

The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) has grown into a reputable think tank and one of the best in the world. Its numerous evidence-based research studies have brought unparalleled breadth and depth of analysis to the most pressing challenges in the areas of economics and governance. This Annual Report provides a summary of the Institute’s research outputs in 2017 and the knowledge-sharing and advocacy activities it has carried out to continuously inform policymakers and engage them and other stakeholders in rational discourse and deeper probing of development issues. For instance, in the height of public debate and opposing views about the proposed shift to a federal form of government in the country, PIDS made it the central theme of its 15th Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) to promote the importance of rigorous research and analysis in the formulation of government policies and programs.

The year 2017 marks the 40th anniversary of PIDS—a time of celebration of past successes, introspection of lessons learned, and stronger motivation to stay committed to its mandate.
