A Study in the Viability of Consolidating Bus Companies Operating Metro Manila

The study looked into the viability of consolidating bus companies operating in Metro Manila. The research found that the operating characteristics of large and small bus companies in Metro Manila were not significantly influenced by the fleet size. The survey of bus passengers showed that majority of bus riders was satisfied with the current level of bus service. There is not much difference in satisfaction levels between those who select specific bus companies and those who do not. The main reason given for not choosing a particular bus company is to cut on waiting time. However, the waiting times even for those who choose specific bus companies are relatively low. Survey results however, showed that majority of passengers prefered three to four bus companies to operate on a particular route. In fact, the majority can only recall less than 10 bus companies. It is concluded that there is no strong basis to consolidate bus companies operating in Metro Manila.
