Philippines-China relations have been clouded with tension due to recent developments in the South China Sea disputes. However, for the relations to not be dominated by these tensions, both parties could look into more positive and productive areas and collaborate with each other at the aims of mutual benefits. Other aspects of the relations that could be pursued for functional cooperation include: (1) bilateral trade, (2) tourism promotion, (3) sports and cultural exchanges, and (4) media exchanges.
