DRN 2006 Vol. XXIV No. 3: Can the Philippine Film Industry Follow Bollywood?

Can the Philippines be another Bollywood? Can it follow the relative success of India and other countries such as China, Korea, and Japan in penetrating the global audiovisual services (AVS) market? What would it take to achieve Bollywood status? These are some of the questions posed by Dr. Gloria Pasadilla and Ms. Angelina Lantin in their paper titled "Audiovisual services sector: can the Philippines follow Bollywood?" This article particularly focuses on the Philippine film industry, its strengths and weaknesses, the challenges and opportunities it faces, and how the industry and government can work together to help it cope with these challenges and become a stronger industry that may one day be another Bollywood.
