Health Social Science Graduate Program

Health Social Science is an interdisciplinary field that integrates the theories and methods of the social sciences in understanding human health and in responding to peoples’ health needs and well being. In 1993, De La Salle University received a grant from the Ford Foundation, enabling it to implement the only health social science curriculum in the country. The program admits those with bachelor’s degree (or with a higher degree), in the social sciences, natural sciences, or health-related fields who nee specialized skills in the social science aspects of research, program design and management, and evaluation, as applied to community and culture-based health issues. It was first designed as an integrated two-level degree composed of a one-year Diploma program and a two-year Masters program. After a review of the courses by the faculty, the Masters program was reduced to one year during school year 1998-1999.
