THE KASAMBAHAY: Child Domestic Work in the Philippines: A Living Experience


This is a book about the experience of the project implementer, the Visayan Forum Foundation, Inc. Their approach to the child domestic workers (CDWs) issue is holistic in that it involves prevention, protection, withdrawal and integration processes that have developed overtime. They tackle the root causes of the problem by working with community organizations, through mainstreaming the issue, such as by enabling measures in the form of national legislation and cooperation with workers organization. The book presents some of the stories of child domestic workers which include recommended solutions to the problems documented. The authors incorporate the Foundation’s strategies used towards CDWs. In conclusion, recommendations are presented for each sector, namely, the caregivers; researchers, statisticians and information managers; policymakers; law enforcers; communities and people’s organizations; international organizations and donor agencies. On the whole, the book sends a plea to regard the child domestic worker as a family member who deserves a fair treatment.
