UP’s Pandemic Response–Activities, Programs, and Policies Implemented by the University of the Philippines in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

In March 2020, the Philippine government imposed a community quarantine in Luzon following the risks brought by the disease. It restricted the movement of over 12 million people in Metro Manila, and everyone was asked to stay at home (CNN Philippines Staff 2020). Since then, community quarantines have been imposed with varying severity across the archipelago. The disruption brought by the pandemic exposed inadequacies and inequalities in the education system. Students living in the remote parts of the country are disadvantaged due to the lack of gadgets, internet connection, and a good learning environment, which hinder studying and class participation.
