This report contains both a sectoral-descriptive analysis and an explanatory synthesis of the surveyed baseline data concerning the incidence and prevalence-distribution-rates of the worst forms of child labour in sugarcane plantations and deep-sea fishing enclaves in Negros Oriental. The term enclave as used here refers to the dominance/incidence of the industry rather than of reported incidence of child labour in said areas. The report is divided into three parts: child labour in sugarcane plantation enclaves, child labour in deep-sea fishing enclaves and child labour in Negros Oriental-a consolidated profile. The data include the gender distribution of non-working and working children, age distribution of all working children, incidence of child labour according to age and gender, child labour prevalence rate according to age and gender, types of employment of children by labour enclaves, and types of employment of children by school age group. The report concludes that the prevalence of child labour in the selected communities surveyed in Negros Oriental is almost 60 percent. This is higher in the deep-sea fishing enclaves than in the sugarcane plantation enclaves- perhaps due to the differences in the economic opportunities available among the surveyed households. The child labour prevalence rate among male children is higher compared to the females due to gender bias in employment opportunities.
