The Tondo Foreshore Urban Development Project

Shortly after World War II, major changes in the social, technical, and economic trends in the convalescing city of Manila, occurred at a rather fast pace. Although the atmosphere of change had its influence felt in education, politics and even culture, the basic catalyst of this urban evolution was predominantly economic, as indicated by the accelerated industrial growth taking place right after liberation. This postwar switch from traditional human labor to mechanization had somehow triggered greater production. Visible signs of this postwar change are the jeepney and the faster interisland vessel which replaced the calesa and the banca.
