Oilseed and oilseed products are one of the fifteen sectors proposed for early voluntary liberalization (EVSL). The proposal is that all tariffs, non-tariff barriers (NTBs), export quotas and other trade distorting measures would be phased-out by 2000 and bound in the World Trade Organization (WTO) schedules.
The paper is divided into three sections: Section 1 present background of the oilseeds and oilseed products sector. Section 2 focuses on the likely impact of the EVSL on the sector. The final section presents the results and recommendations from a consultation conducted with representatives of the oilseeds, oilseed product producers and their users, government agencies and some experts from the academe.
