This issue is an attempt to review several of the PIDS paper concerning the country’s balance of payments problems from the seventies up to the present as well as those conducted by other related institutions. Responses to the crisis, especially the macroeconomic adjustments adopted are highlighted and documented to shed light on whether these moves aggravate or alleviate the effects of the crisis.
