Social Impact of the Asian Crisis in the Philippines: Preliminary Survey


The Philippines may have not been the hardest hit of the recent Asian financial crisis but its impact is still felt by groups belonging to vulnerable sectors. This paper assesses the impact of the crisis to the Philippine society by looking at indicators such as poverty, income and expenditure level. It examines the channels through which the crisis affects the poor are examine in which policy recommendations are also raised out.
