Climate variability is one of the major sources of production risk in agricultural systems resulting to uncertain production. This makes farmers highly vulnerable to the negative effects of climate variability making them food insecure. Risk associated to climate in agriculture can be managed by providing necessary climate information to agricultural decision makers. Climate information consists of past, present and future climate condition can be used by farmers, communities and other decision makers to make short, medium and long-term decisions to employ a range of adaptation strategies to manage climate risks. However, climate information should be accessible, comprehensible and timely in order to address the needs of its users particularly, farmers. Farmers have to receive and understand the advisories from climate providers in preparation for anticipated climate variability in order to make appropriate farming decisions. Capacities of farming communities must be strengthened to increase knowledge and awareness of farmers to the potential impact of climate variability and change on agriculture and to better prepare them for the associated impacts. Provisioning of climate information tailored to the needs of climate users particularly farmers may help improve farmer’s agricultural decision making to maximize yield and minimize crop losses.
