Revisiting the ASEAN Regional Forum

The ASEAN Regional Forum was established to contribute to regional peace, stability and prosperity yet, it has been criticized by many for its weak processes and slow pace in addressing pertinent issues. Despite the ARF's shortcomings as a mechanism in shaping the region's security architecture, its promotion of the rule of law, values, and norms as well as, the facilitation of constructive dialogue among major powers is nevertheless significant.
