One site considered for study by Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) researchers is the Mabini-Tingloy area in Batangas, Philippines. The area of Mabini is 4,296 hectares with an estimated population of 37,474; the municipality of Tingloy has a total of 3,135 hectares and a population of 17,028. The management of the coral reefs in this area is closely tied to the development of diving and coastal tourism. There have been four major ICM projects in this area between 1988 and the present. Although problems exist, the general condition of the coral reefs in both municipalities is stable and improving in some sites.
