Securing a stable and sufficient food supply is the cornerstone of food security and proper nutrition, as emphasized in the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023–2028. However, growing challenges such as climate change, geopolitical tensions disrupting global supply chains, and a steadily increasing population are straining food availability.
In response, the Philippine Development Report (2023) advocates for a value-chain approach, beginning with ensuring an adequate food supply. This note examines the current state of key food commodities in the Philippines, explores factors influencing supply through production and imports, and proposes reforms to safeguard a steady and reliable food supply for the country.
