The article examines the current state of the economic world, particularly in East Asia, pointing to events after World War II that led to the end of colonialism in Asia as strong authoritarian leaders emphasized unity, work, and discipline that worked better that the western democratic model. Highlighted are developments that will likely take place in ASEAN in the next several years. Much of our energy and resources must be devoted to education-people can be better equipped to compete for globalization in the economic world only with better education.
