This paper reports on the research by the author on "HANAPBUHAY": THE FILIPINO BUREAUCRAT'S QUEST FOR "GINHAWA” IN THE WORKPLACE. Its Implications for Understanding Bureaucratic Corruption which was made in response to a deeply felt need, voiced both inside the profession and elsewhere, to ground Public Administration in the Philippines in Filipino culture and society in terms of subject matter as well as methodology. It approached the study of the perennial problem of corruption in the bureaucracy through the pan-Filipino concept of ginhawa/ kaginhawahan and how its search in the workplace by government employees translate into bureaucratic practices defined by the operative concepts of "hanapbuhay" and "trabaho" and the resulting intersection between these two.
