COVID-19 Pandemic: The Experience of Asia-Pacific Countries

This study examines the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on the monetary and banking sectors and financial markets of selected Asia-Pacific countries. Using a panel fixed effects model, this study sought to determine whether the announcements of different policy measures were helpful in containing the adverse economic impact of the pandemic. Empirical analysis revealed that announcements of fiscal policy, monetary policy, and various forms of monetary policy measures, and bank operational resilience did, in general, help ease the impact of the pandemic. Importantly, banking sectors across selected Asia-Pacific countries have been generally stable as the impact of the pandemic on banking indicators appeared muted and mixed.
