China Could and Should Learn a Lesson or Two from Africa in the Area of Peaceful Dispute Settlement


China has been seeking support from African states in its position against the Philippines' filing of an arbitration case. It is, however, important for China to note that African states have increasingly become more acceptant of the principle of dispute settlement through international courts and have gotten more involved in cases heard in these courts. Given such, this article highlights the differences between Chinese and African attitudes towards peaceful dispute settlement and probes into the lessons that China could learn from African states' experiences in the issue.
