The Philippine APEC Study Center Network (PASCN) of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), in collaboration with the University of San Carlos (USC), hosted a hybrid symposium titled “Shaping APEC’s Blue Economy Agenda: Philippine Leadership and Visayas-Centric Innovations”. Scheduled for February 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, this event took place at USC Talamban Campus in Cebu City, and online via Zoom.
This symposium supports the Philippines’ initiatives to advance the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)’s Blue Economy agenda, emphasizing the country’s unique contributions and innovative approaches to addressing environmental challenges while promoting economic resilience.
The blue economy, which focuses on the sustainable utilization of ocean resources to support economic growth while preserving marine ecosystems, is central to APEC’s broader sustainability objectives. With its diverse marine ecosystems, vibrant fisheries, and dynamic coastal industries, the Visayas region exemplifies localized Blue Economy initiatives.
This event provides a platform to integrate global, regional, and local aspirations for sustainable marine resource management and highlight Visayas-centric innovations aligned with APEC’s goals.
