Policy Dialogue: Results of the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific

The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), in partnership with the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) of the United Nations, held an online policy dialogue on August 29, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM via Zoom. It highlighted the 2024 edition of ESCAP’s annual flagship report Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific, focusing on the theme “Boosting affordable and longer-term financing for governments”.

The Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific, published annually since 1947, provides crucial analyses to inform policy discussions on current and emerging socio-economic issues and policy challenges, supporting sustainable development across Asia and the Pacific. The 2024 edition examines how countries in the region, along with donors, multilateral development banks, and credit rating agencies, can enhance the availability of affordable and long-term financing for governments. This study is essential for understanding strategies to address the growing financial demands faced by developing countries, which are crucial for investments in education, healthcare, and social protection.
