EID 2017 Vol. XVII No.5: Demographic Dividend

This Economic Issue of the Day explores the concept of demographic dividend and its relevance in the fulfillment of the Philippines' economic potential. It reveals that while the country is currently riding on the demographic sweet spot, this window of opportunity is closing soon. Given this time-bound nature of demographic dividend, this paper urges the government to invest in infrastructure and human capital, among others, to support the needs of its population. It also calls for the strengthened government support for family planning programs that can help Filipino families attain their desired fertility level.
