Extending a Helping Hand: Matching the Financial Needs of the Rural Poor


The book is the third in a series of IFAD MICROSERV studies, identified and categorised various innovative rural microfinancial products and services in Asia region and the rural and microfinance institutions/programmes ( RMFI/Ps) that develop such products and provide such services to rural clients. The study also looked into the various innovative modes of identifying the demand for such services by rural clients and how these institutions match these demands. The study covered the following countries where financial innovations are mostly found: Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka in South Asia and Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines in South East Asia. Five case studies on RMFIs were also covered.
