A Survey on the Present Management of Industrial & Hazardous Wastes in the Philippines

The absence of safe and proper management of hazardous wastes in the Philippines prompted the conduct of this study. This report covers the review of the fundamental principles of hazardous wastes management. The types, sources and effects of different hazardous wastes found in industries and other non-manufacturing sectors are reviewed here. Secondary data were collected from government agencies like the Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR), Environment Management Bureau (EMB), and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) by interviews and surveys conducted. At the same time, networking activities were done through the Asian Regional Research Programme on Environmental Protection (ARRPET). This is a SIDA-funded project coordinated by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) where De La Salle University is chosen National Research Institute of Industrial & Hazardous Waste Management.
