DLSU RP 1999-09: Engineering Methods on: (a) Asphalt Road Construction; (b) Concrete Road Construction;

The effective application of various methods of construction in an infrastructure project is of vital importance to a civil engineer. A careful analysis of construction procedures should be given special attention particularly the manner on how to start the operation, what methods will be employed and how it will be done, the equipment to be used and the people who will employ the work before actual construction work is started. The methods of construction operations in road construction is a significant factor in selecting the type of equipment as to the effect on the specific job or nature of work to be done. These methods and their procedures are documented in this research project. A video presentation on actual road construction work is presented. Film slides and transparencies on road construction methods were also made to help facilitate in visualizing the proper method of construction. The research project is divided into methods used in asphalt road construction (flexible pavements) and concrete road construction (rigid pavements). Video footage on the proper methods and equipment used were taken under local condition settings. The step by step procedures and a written documentation on the manner of construction is also presented. These written procedures are in consonance with the accompanying video slides. This instructional material developed is useful to those teaching the subject of Construction Methods in the civil engineering course.
