The article presents excerpts from one of the lectures conducted in the Public Lecture Series of 8th December 1978, sponsored by the U.P. Institute of Environmental Planning, U.P. Planning and Development Research Foundation, Inc., and the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners. Essentially, with recognition to the transportation problem which goes hand in hand with the traffic problem in Metro Manila, the lecture notes the need for a rationalization of the transportation system not only in the area but in the entire nation. Such rationalization can be done through controls in the economic system and these are concisely discussed in the article.
