One of the very first research activities, which PIDS has initiated when it began operations in mid-1978, is the conduct of surveys of past research on development issues in the Philippines. The objectives of these surveys are to highlight and integrate the findings and recommendations of development research in the country and to assist in identifying future direction for policy-oriented research.
The five papers presented in this volume are the results of the undertaking in the following areas: urbanization and spatial development, income and wealth distribution, poverty, monetary policy and macroeconometric planning models.
By publishing these surveys, it is hoped that PIDS can be of service to policymakers, planners, researchers, students of development and those who have interest in Philippine socioeconomic development.
