Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) provide employment and value added to economies across the world. Nevertheless, their small size means that they may have had to adapt resource mobilization strategies to survive and thrive despite the unique challenges they face. One such approach is through entrepreneurial bricolage or the usage of existing resources to help SMEs overcome challenges such as limited access to finance, corruption and other challenges that particularly affect SMEs in emerging economies such as the Philippines. The objective of this report are to investigate and describe SMEs bricolage behavior when facing challenges using a 500-respondent quantitative survey. Based on these results, we then put forward policy recommendations to help promote SME competitiveness amidst resource constraints that SMEs face in the context of an emerging economy.
