Measuring the Conversion of Lands to Urban Uses in the Philippines: Residential Subdivisions Development as Surrogate Data

The paper prescribes certain policy measures dealing with urban expansion and the conversion of lands to urban uses. As a basis for the formulation of policy measures, an estimate of the magnitude and rate of land use conversion is attempted, employing residential subdivision development figures as surrogate data. Further, implications of such land use conversion to the future land use distribution, particularly its effect on the share of non-urban uses like agriculture, forestry, etc., are highlighted before policy recommendations are made.
