The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) crafted the Research and Development, Extension Agenda and Programs (RDEAP) 2016–2022 in support of a sustainable agriculture and fishery sector. RDEAP 2016–2022 identifies problems, researchable areas, and expected outputs for the competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience of these sectors grouped as follows: food staples, feed sources, and other alternatives including rice, corn, cassava, adlay; commercial crops such as plantation and biofuel crops; vegetables, legumes, and root crops; fruits; poultry and livestock; and capture fisheries and aquaculture.
DA-BAR is the Philippine government agency mandated to ensure coordination of agricultural research and maximize its application in development. DA-BAR’s mission is to attain food security and reduce poverty through technology-based agriculture and fisheries sector. Thus, it is imperative to examine what should be further pursued by a strategic R&D program in this direction.
