This paper assesses the impact of reforms undertaken to transform the country into a globally competitive economy. A brief review of these reforms is provided. Its impacts are analyzed using the recent PIDS studies on trade and industrial policy while the economy-wide impacts of the trade reforms are analyzed through simulation of results isolating the effects of trade reforms. Some APEC trade perspectives are also discussed.
