The economic success of the East Asian economies is largely attributed to the implementation of export-oriented industrial strategies. It stressed the importance of exports in promoting growth and global competitiveness. This paper shall review the existing indicators of export competitiveness, and develop a new set of measures that will assess the country's competitiveness in the world market. The first section discusses the concept of comparative advantage and stresses the importance of exports in growth and development of a country. The second section summarizes the indicators of export competitiveness and its limitation, and the third section presents an economic profile of the Asian countries using the indicators.
