Participating in and availing of benefits from social forestry requires certain instruments that provide proof of rights awarded to the local communities. These instruments also guide the communities in using and managing the forest resources. In Lao PDR, this is encapsulated in the preparation and submission of the Village Forestry Management Plan (VFMP), which constitutes one of the requirements in the recognition of the communities’ resource use rights.
