Mukim is part of Aceh’s traditional governance structure. It is a subdivision of a sub-district composed of several villages. As a customary system of community governance, it has authority over village administration and management of its natural resources. Mukim is legally recognized by the government of Aceh. However, performance of its administrative function needs to be strengthened.
