Development of a National Roadmap on Social Forestry in Malaysia

The development of social forestry in Malaysia is a result of the recognition that marginalized rural communities depend on forest resources for their subsistence. It is estimated that 12 percent of Malaysia’s 31 million population are natives and aborigines who, at varying degree, forest resourcesdependent for their livelihood. It is also among these communities that pockets of severe poverty remain despite the significant reduction in national incidence of poverty.
